Karter Deen, a recent visitor to Gulf State Park found a one of a kind keepsake, a fossilized great white shark tooth. Deen took the tooth to the Gulf State Park Nature Center who reached out to Jun Ebersol, the Director of Collections at the McWane Science Center. He identified the tooth which appears to be from the lower right jaw. Ebersol believes the tooth was dredged from an offshore sand deposit and dumped onshore in a beach restoration zone. The tooth is approximately 2.6 to 5 million years old, dating back to the Pliocene Epoch.
