Gulf Shores to celebrate Christmas with festive events for all ages

While the Gulf Coast may be known for white sands instead of white snow, that doesn't mean we don't know how to celebrate the holidays at the beach.

For example, the City of Gulf Shores is gearing up for a festive holiday season with a series of events designed for residents and visitors of all ages.

Kicking off on Dec. 5, the holiday festivities will begin with the Community Christmas at Sims Park. Families can enjoy pictures with Santa, holiday treats, crafts and the 9th Annual Snowball Drop, where 8,000 ping pong balls will fall from above, each offering a chance to win prizes. The Snowball Drop is free to attend, and those interested in sponsoring the event can find more details at www.gulfshoresal.gov.

On Dec.10, the Baldwin Pops will host their annual holiday concert at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center. The concert, performed by volunteer musicians, offers a free, festive evening for the community. Seating is first-come, first-served, and attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped gift for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program.

Families are invited to Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 14, also at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center. The breakfast, featuring sausage, bacon, eggs and pancakes, costs $6 for adults, with children 3 and under eating for free. Each child will receive a complimentary photo with Santa.

In addition to these main events, the Gulf Shores Public Library and the Gulf Shores Recreation Department are offering several holiday-themed programs throughout the month. Library events include cookie decorating with Ms. Claus on Dec. 5, an adult Christmas card class on Dec. 9 and a visit from Santa during storytime on Dec. 12.

The Recreation Department is hosting a Natural Christmas Wreath DIY Class on Dec. 3, Christmas BINGO on Dec. 4 and a Deck the House Lights Contest, with submissions due by Dec. 15. The Deck the House Van Ride & Happy Hour will take place on Dec. 17, followed by a Deck the House Scavenger Hunt and Map of Lights available to the community on Dec. 20.

Some events require pre-registration, and more information on all holiday events can be found at www.gulfshoresal.gov/Christmas.
