Gulf Shores presents motion to add additional beach rescue vehicles

Posted

Gulf Shores city council members gathered for a work session meeting on Feb. 19, where a motion was presented to purchase five additional Honda Pioneer UTV vehicles for the beach rescue division of the Gulf Shores Fire Department.

Per the presented documents, if approved, the additional UTVs would replace five of the current vehicles which are currently on a two year replacement schedule.

"The vehicles the lifeguards use are on a two year replacement schedule, so it's time for these to be replaced," said Fire Rescue Chief of Staff Melvin Shepard. "We will surplus the old units once we get the old ones in."

Per the presented documents, the cost of the new vehicles would be approximately $87,835.25, and would be included in the 2024 operational budget.

This motion was set to be voted on at the next city council meeting on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m.
