Gulf Shores plans 4 events for National Bike Month

Posted

Gulf Shores residents, it is time to dust off your bikes, get air in those tires and join the National Bike Month fun.

The city of Gulf Shores will celebrate National Bike Month during the month of May with four events:

  • May 3 - National Bike to School Day
  • May 7 – Ride a Bike Day
  • May 15-21 – Bike to Work Week
  • May 19 – Bike to Work Day

The Gulf Shores Police Department will be assisting with National Bike to School Day Wednesday, May 3. There will be two meeting locations where children can meet to depart for school: Kids Park Playground area at Johnnie Sims Park and Meyer Park. Students participating in the ride from Jonnie Sims Park will depart at 7:15 a.m.

Students participating in the ride from Meyer Park will depart at 7:30 a.m. There will be a return ride held after school. Participants should wear a helmet. In the event of inclement weather, the ride will be canceled and rescheduled for May 10.

The public is encouraged to put on their helmets and make their daily work commute on their bike during National Bike to Work Week May 15-21.

"With Gulf Shores being named a Bronze-Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists in 2018, these events are essential to maintaining that status within our community," said Andy Bauer, Gulf Shores Planning Director. "This is an opportunity for us, the city of Gulf Shores, to further invest in our residents, both adults and children, by promoting a healthy lifestyle as we encourage a more active bicycling community."
