Hurricane Sally really made a mess of Gulf State Park in September 2020. The Gulf State Pier lost a large section, trails were damaged and cabins destroyed. Park staff and volunteers have made great progress in restoring the park but there is still much to be done.
The roof of the Beach Pavilion was several damaged by Hurricane Sally, leaving debris and roofing material scattered throughout the dunes. Last week, 22 Gulf Shores High School students from Krista Marcum’s Gulf Coast Ecology class spent a morning assisting park staff. In less than one hour, the group collected 25 pounds of debris.
If you would like to volunteer at Gulf State Park registration is required. Email Cindy Langston at cindy.langston@dcnr.alabama.gov to request a registration form. Volunteers must be 7 years or older and maintain social distance practices and must wear a mask.
