The City of Gulf Shores has unveiled the lineup for its highly anticipated 2024 Sunset Series, promising an array of free, live concerts set against the backdrop of the stunning Gulf Place beaches.
The series will kick off on Sept. 5 and run through Sept. 26, with performances scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Town Green at Gulf Place, 101 Gulf Shores Parkway.
"We are excited to continue our Sunset Series," Grant Brown, City of Gulf Shores Recreation and Cultural Affairs director, said in a news release. "Our city has put so much effort into making Gulf Place Public Beach a beautiful and relaxing spot for our residents and guests. We are excited to mix that beauty with free entertainment for everyone to enjoy."
Concertgoers are invited to bring family, friends and lawn chairs to enjoy these family-friendly events. Each evening promises a unique musical experience with a diverse range of genres and talents.
Sept. 5 – DieDra and the Ruff Pro Band
DieDra, known for her powerful voice and comparisons to Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle, will open the series. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, DieDra began her professional music career in the late 1990s after overcoming personal challenges. Dubbed "The Blues Diva" and "The Alabama Blues Queen," she has released acclaimed albums like "Overcoming Hurdles" and "Livin the Bluz." Recently, she has ventured into screenwriting, having penned three movie scripts since 2020.
Sept. 12 – M-80s
Get ready to relive the 1980s with The M-80s, who have been thrilling Southeast audiences since 2007. The band brings a nostalgic mix of pop and rock hits from iconic artists like Journey, Queen and The Go-Go's, ensuring a high-energy trip back in time.
Sept. 19 – The Andrew Weaver Band
At just 22, Andrew Weaver has already made significant strides in the music world. Since his 2018 appearance on "American Idol," Weaver has blended acoustic and synth pop influences in his work. Alongside his own music career, he has produced tracks for Grammy-nominated Nappy Roots and Pote Baby.
Sept. 26 – Frank Brown Songwriters Showcase
The series will conclude with a special preview of the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival. The showcase features Wyatt Durrette, Dave Kennedy and Rob Snyder:
