The Jeremy McKissack Memorial Firehouse Scramble will be held Sept. 8 at Holly Hills Municipal Golf Course in Bay Minette.
The 4-man scramble golf tournament will offer two tee times: 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. There is a $300 per team entry fee, and sponsorships are available. Lunch is provided between flights.
Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Bay Minette Fire Department's Fire Prevention Programs. During the past year, the BMFD has given out and installed more than 200 smoke detectors in homes. The fire department also interacts with nearly 2,000 school-aged children and shares fire safety tips.
The department distributes activity books, fire helmets and additional learning tools to reinforce the importance of fire prevention. BMFD hosts an annual community open house and also takes part in community events to share information on fire safety and prevention.
The tournament is named in memory of Jeremy McKissack, who was a captain at Bay Minette Fire Station 70 where he served the community for 20 years. McKissack was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2020 and died the following year. He also volunteered with Perdido and Rabun volunteer fire departments.
