Combine delicious food, interactive art demonstrations, a lively silent auction and creatively designed tables and you have the recipe for a successful fundraiser. The GFWC Jubilee Woman's Club's recent Art in the Afternoon Tablescapes event raised approximately $3,800 that the club will use to fund its many community projects.

"We are so grateful for the support for our recent Art in the Afternoon Tablescapes," said Carol Cleveland, president of the GFWC Jubilee Woman's Club. "The money we raised will help us as we serve the greater Baldwin County area with our projects."

GFWC Jubilee Woman's Club has a broad focus. It has built and maintains two Little Free Libraries, one in Silverhill and one in Fairhope. Additionally, it contributes funds, supplies and work hours to such endeavors as McKemie Place in Mobile, a shelter for homeless women; Camille Place, a shelter for human trafficking victims; Prodisee Pantry; and the William F. Green Veterans' Home, as well as providing scholarships statewide and at the local level. In the past, the club has also provided items for the North Baldwin White Christmas giving program, Operation Smile, Heifer International and Maji Hope.

"Our work in the larger community is quite varied," Cleveland said. "We want to do as much good as we can for as many people as possible. Our club members are devoted to making where we live a better place. We are fortunate to have the community support to continue our work."

The recent Art in the Afternoon Tablescapes featured Nancy Raia, community outreach director of the Eastern Shore Art Center, who presented three art demonstrations and encouraged guests to create their own works of art. The approximately 100 guests were treated to a luncheon and bid on items that ranged from artwork to gift baskets to gift certificates.

GFWC Jubilee Woman's Club is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, which boasts more than 80,000 members in 50 states and several international locations. It was founded in 1890 and has its headquarters in Washington, D.C. Daphne resident Suellen Brazil serves as president-elect of the international GFWC organization, the first time a woman from Alabama has held that post.
