The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts (GECA) is gearing up for its upcoming production of "The Odd Couple: Ladies Edition," a fresh take on Neil Simon's beloved comedy.
This unique, female-led twist on the classic play will run from Oct. 10-13 and Oct. 17-20 at the GECA theater in Atmore.
Audiences can expect a night filled with laughter and heartwarming moments as the story follows two mismatched roommates, Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive, a laid-back and messy sportswriter, and Florence, a neurotic neat-freak, find themselves living together after their respective relationships fall apart. The clash of their personalities sets the stage for tension, humor, and ultimately, an unexpected friendship.
The talented local cast includes Charity Strength as the messy but lovable Olive Madison and Anna Donald as the meticulous Florence Unger. Supporting characters, who add to the hilarity, include Courtney Jade Bonie as Mickey, Malary Goldman as Renee, Mikalia Feagans as Sylvie, Monica Booker as Vera and Ayden Roynon and Simon Bush sharing the role of Manolo. Braxton Wagner will play Jesus.
Director Ollie Jaye expressed excitement about the production, stating, "This version of "The Odd Couple" brings a fresh perspective while maintaining the humor and wit that made the original so iconic. Our cast has been fantastic, and we're looking forward to sharing this production with the Atmore community."
Performances will take place Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Doors will open one hour before showtime. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased online at www.gecarts.org.
