Bama Beach Pickleball Club and Foley Sports Tourism sponsored a pickleball tournament Aug. 24-28 at the Foley Event Center to benefit the Gastric Cancer Foundation.
Under the direction of Eddie McDonald, the Pickleball Ambassador for Baldwin County, 367 players from 11 states ranging in age from 14 to 81 participated. After it was all said and done, 699 matches were held and 200 medals were given out in five categories: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with different flights based on ability.
The tournament was put on to support and raise money for the Gastric Cancer Foundation. With the support of Foley Sports Tourism and a wide range of local sponsors – including the tournament’s leading sponsor, Community Senior Life in Orange Beach – over $20,000 was raised and donated to the Foundation.
Many thanks to our local sponsors and to the many (over 30) volunteers who came and gave their time to help run the tournament.
