Gary Russell Carter, Sr., passed away at Thomas Hospital in the presence of family and other loved ones on Sunday, May 8, 2022. He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife, Martha Bryant Carter; his loving daughter, Theresa Carter Gaspard (Craig); granddaughter, Taylor Budd; grandsons, Jack Budd and John Carter. In addition, he is survived by three daughters from his marriage, Mary Brooke Woods, Brandi Guthrie and Martha Ann Fuller (Jeffrey). His bonus grandchildren are Avery, Riley, Brady Woods, Lee Guthrie, III, Ethan Fuller, Ashli Fuqua (Jacob), Christopher Davis and Nathan Fuller. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Russell “Rusty” Carter, Jr.

Gary began his career as an Alabama Highway Design Engineer. He was also the Chief helicopter pilot for Southern Natural Gas in Toca, Louisianna for 30 years. After that, he worked with the CIS Department for St. Tammany Parrish Sheriff’s Office. He taught computer science at First Baptist Church Christian School in Slidell, Louisiana. Previously he flew for PHI. Gary was Chief Warrant Officer II in the Army Air National Guard.

He belonged to The Blue Knights of Louisiana and The American Legion Post #199. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Fairhope. His favorite hobby was riding his motorcycle, as well as making memories with his wife and friends as they traveled and camped. In addition, he enjoyed gardening, computers and anything that involved technology.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Fairhope at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. Burial was following at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
