The Gulf Shores High School Band opens the 2007 season of Gulf Shores Outdoors & In, presented by the city of Gulf Shores.
The free indoor concert will take place April 12 at the Erie Meyer Civic Center, 1930 W. Second St. in Gulf Shores. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the music will begin at 7.
Under the direction of Tim Brannan, this spring concert will highlight the talents of the “Pride of Pleasure Island”.
Brannan is in his first year as band director at Gulf Shores. He previously taught at Satsuma High School in Mobile County, T.R. Miller High School in Brewton and Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa.
Brannan’s bands at each school have been rated superior at the Alabama Bandmasters State Festival. Additionally, his bands have been seen on MTV, the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade televised by NBC, and they have performed for the Alabama Music Educator’s Association State Conference.
He is a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School, received a bachelor’s in music education at Auburn and a master’s in music education from Southern Miss.
Gulf Shores High and Middle School Band members are doing their part to keep Brannan’s string of honors intact.
They have performed in several competitions where they have achieved success. One such contest was the Azalea City Marching Festival at Mary G. Montgomery High School, where the band received five superior ratings. In March, they won first place in their class at a competition in Orlando.
Gulf Shores Middle School Band is led by Jeremy Willis. Seventh- and eighth-grade students round out the band, consistently moving up to the high school level to compete.
Band students have also excelled as individual musicians. Gulf Shores High School is proud to have three Baldwin County Honor Band recipients. They are Danyell Davis, Jeremy Culver and Alternate Madi Kreamer.
If you missed Gulf Shores High School football season then you missed some great entertainment. This could be your last chance to hear the Dolphins as they bid farewell to the 2006-2007 school year and prepare for summer.
Some will be heading off to college and the rest will be left to carry on the legacy. These musicians could be the next big stars of tomorrow, but you have the opportunity to see them today.
Bring your family and friends to the concert and welcome our own home-grown talent. A variety of tunes will provide an enjoyable evening of musical entertainment for all ages.
