The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber has announced the return of its annual E-Cycling & Shred Day, an event to help residents safely dispose of personal documents and electronic waste.
This year's event is set for Saturday, Jan. 11, from 8 a.m. to noon at Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion, 22250 E. Beach Blvd. in Gulf Shores.
The event is an effort between the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Gulf State Park and Baldwin EMC. Volunteers will be on-site to remove items directly from vehicles. Among these volunteers will be the Chamber's Junior Leadership students, who will accept optional tips to support their program.
"We've done this event for well over a decade now and have really become efficient at it," said Steve Jones, Chamber VP of special events and community relations, "We run rain or shine
and folks don't even have to exit their vehicles. It's just a great way to help keep the community clean and clutter free."
Participants are invited to bring personal paper documents such as canceled checks, credit card statements and utility bills to be shredded on-site. Each vehicle is limited to 50 pounds of shred materials, and attendees are asked not to tape or tie bags or boxes. The event also provides an opportunity to dispose of electronic items, including televisions, computers, vacuums, printers and power tools. However, batteries will not be accepted, and a $30 fee applies to CRT televisions.
E-Cycling & Shred Day offers an environmentally friendly solution for decluttering while ensuring sensitive materials are securely destroyed. For more information, contact ryan@mygulfcoastchamber.com, visit www.mygulfcoastchamber.com or call (25) 968-7200.
