Lions’ Most Outstanding Softball Player announces decision on college future

Recent Foley High School graduate Maddie Maurin announced her commitment to play softball for the Division II University of Montevallo Falcons coming off her summer season.

Maurin and the Gulf Coast Shocker’s summer finished earlier this month but it was right before the last of six showcases that she inked her commitment to the next level.

In her final year wearing the Foley Lions’ blue and gold, Maurin was named Most Outstanding Softball Player at the Lady Lions Athletic Banquet. The outfielder helped the Lions take third in Area 2 although they fell in three games in the Area tournament.

Next season, Foley will be coached by Tony Scarbrough.

Montevallo competes in the Gulf South Conference and registered a 15-13 record in league play for the No. 6 seed in the playoff bracket. The Falcons won their tournament-opening game but dropped the next two to find the end of the road.
