Foley is more than just the town you pass through to reach Alabama's beautiful sugar sand beaches. With the expansion of OWA Parks and Resort, increased development and an expanding food scene, Foley is a destination of its own.

The diversity of Foley's food scene ensures there is something for everyone. The establishments range from mom and pop to national chains and quick serve burger to "Tomahawk" ribeye chop.

One of the newest restaurants to open in Foley is Big Potato Company. Located at 3105 South McKenzie St., the location opened in early May. The small franchise has two other locations in Centreville and Greenville, Alabama.

The menu at Big Potato Company loaded with variety offering potatoes topped with everything from bacon and cheddar to lobster or Japanese crab. If you aren't in the mood for a spud, they also offer a full sandwich menu offering everything from pulled pork to a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with pimento cheese on sourdough bread.

A new Italian restaurant just opened in Downtown OWA called Valerio's Pizza and Italian. The new eatery, located at 100-F South OWA Blvd., offers quick counter service, allowing diners to enjoy their meal on the go on in the dining room. The menu features fresh salads, paninis, pasta and stone-oven prepared pizza. You can also stop by and grab a beer or wine to-go to enjoy in Downtown OWA; just ask for an entertainment cup.

There could be a new Dairy Queen location in Foley's future. According to a Foley Planning Commission agenda from May 18, JSO Services is seeking site plan approval to build a restaurant at the southeast corner of Highway 59 and Keller Road. The site is located near Old Time Pottery.

Rumors are circulating about several new restaurants coming to town, but Gulf Coast Media was unable to confirm the information at press time. The unconfirmed establishments include Chipotle, Jim n Nick's BBQ Restaurant and Mugshots Grill and Bar.
