Foley’s finances shine with national recognition

Posted

Foley’s local government workings has once again placed the city in the national spotlight, with its Finance Department earning multiple accolades for excellence in budgeting and reporting.

The city recently submitted its 2025 budget to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for consideration for the Distinguished Budget Award. Foley has now received this prestigious honor five consecutive times.

“I am so proud of the awards that reflect the quality of our city’s financial responsibility to our citizens,” Mayor Ralph Hellmich said. “It starts with our outstanding Accounting Department. It’s another key to being transparent and financially responsible.”

Foley’s financial accomplishments extend beyond its budget submissions. The city has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 11 consecutive years and has won the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting four times. The city is currently under consideration for a fifth award in this category.

Notably, Foley has achieved the GFOA’s prestigious “triple crown” — receiving all three awards in the same year — four times, a distinction that highlights the city’s comprehensive approach to financial excellence.

Adding to its accolades, Foley was recently recognized with a Certificate of Excellence for Continuing Disclosure Reporting from Digital Assurance Certification. This award acknowledges Foley’s full compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure rules for the past 10 years, highlighting the city’s dedication to transparency in financial communication.
