Foley police have arrested a woman after officers discovered a man’s decomposing body inside her apartment during a welfare check.
On the morning of July 28, officers responded to a call around 10:50 a.m. at the Alison Pointe Apartments in Foley. Inside one of the units, they found the body of an unidentified man who appeared to have been dead for an extended period according to reports.
Following an initial investigation, police arrested Valerie Bonner, 54, of Foley. She was charged with abuse of a corpse, a felony under Alabama law, for allegedly failing to report the man’s death and allowing the body to remain in the residence. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of tampering with physical evidence.
Authorities said foul play is not suspected in the man’s death, but an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause. Detectives are continuing to investigate and are working closely with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased man. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Foley Police Department by email at tips@foleypolice.org.
