Foley Public Library releases January events

FOLEY - Beginning in January 2022 the library will be open Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Along with new hours comes new programs, as well as regular monthly programs including Makersaurus Time, the Doki Doki Anime Club, a Saturday movie and Coffee & Donuts With an Author.
Family BINGO Night will begin on Friday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. and be held every other month. A small donation is required to acquire bingo cards. The library plays three rounds of five games each. Prize drawings will be held at the end of each round. Back doors open at 5:30 p.m. to allow entrance for bingo. Reservations are required.
Beginning on Friday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. the library will host the first meeting for a new Adult Anime Club open to ages 17 and up. Attendees can bring a bite to eat with them, and cold drinks will be served. More mature anime (for ages 17 and up) will be watched and discussed. Club guidelines will be created at the first meeting. Anyone who would like to get in on the ground floor of the new club is invited to join the meeting. No reservations are required at this time.
On Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m., Mike Bunn will give a presentation on “The Assault on Fort Blakely” in the library’s upstairs meeting room. Bunn will discuss the afternoon of April 9, 1865, when 16,000 Union troops launched a coordinated assault on the three-mile-long line of earthworks known as Fort Blakely. Reservations required.
On Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m., Fairhope musician and poet Mike Turner will give a musical presentation “Songs of the Gulf Coast,” composed of original songs and the stories behind them. Historic events like the BP oil spill, the Dauphin Island Race Tragedy, local legends and Louisiana Hoodoo serve as source material for the musical program.
A Family Book Read will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. Author Ryan Caver and his son, Oliver, will present their book, “Litter, Litter Please Come Here,” and discuss their organization, Clean Horizons. The organization’s mission is to clean up beaches and pick up three million tons of trash. For more information on the organization, go to www.cleanhorizons.org. Reservations required.
