Foley’s Municipal Airport opened its doors to the public Saturday, March 22, giving residents a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the aviation facility.

About 100 people attended the open house, which offered a chance to learn more about airport activities and operations.

Lightning Aviation, the company that manages the airport, hosted the event. Representatives answered questions and guided visitors through the facility, which provides flight instruction, aircraft maintenance, rentals and other services.

One local resident, who lives next to the airport, said she appreciated the opportunity to finally see the facility up close.

“This is so nice to be able to come out here,” she said. “I’ve wanted to come out, but I didn’t want to interrupt anyone while they’re working out here. Everyone’s very nice and you have a wonderful place here.”

The Foley Municipal Airport features a 3,700-foot runway extending north and south. The facility sits at 510 Airport Drive near Underwood Road, Baldwin County 24, about five miles from the Tanger Outlet Center and roughly 15 miles from the Gulf beaches.
