Foley man arrested for financial exploitation of elderly person in botched home renovations

Posted

A Foley man was arrested this week on accusations he financially exploited an elderly person.

The warrant stemmed from an incident in October 2022 when Joseph Mctigrit, 36, supposedly represented himself as a licensed contractor and was then hired by a 61-year-old woman from Lillian to complete home renovations. According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Mctigrit is not licensed and could not legally obtain the permits to perform the construction work on the home, unbeknownst to the victim.

According to a news release from BCSO, the woman gave the suspect more than $100,000 to buy supplies and perform the work on her home, but he never bought supplies and the work he started caused further damage to the home.

The victims contacted the suspect over the phone after numerous attempts, according to the sheriff’s office. He returned about $20,000 before cutting off all communication.

Mctigrit was charged with financial exploitation of the elderly and was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center on March 15.

The sheriff’s office believes Mctigrit has multiple victims for the same types of crimes and fraudulent business practices.
