The most decorated thrower in Foley track and field history can add another college honor to her trophy case.
Montevallo’s Emily Wolf was named Gulf South Conference’s Freshman of the Year Monday afternoon after she racked up four Athlete of the Week honors. With 12 total podium finishes in her first year as a Falcon, Wolf collected four event wins during the 2023-24 season.
Wolf becomes the first Montevallo representative to earn the yearly award since the conference reconfigured its championships in 2016.
Her debut season closed with the Women’s Most Outstanding Freshman Performer award at the GSC Outdoor Championships May 2-4, where Wolf landed on two podiums.
At the final outdoor conference meet, the former Foley Lion used a personal record of 49.41 meters in the hammer throw for second place in addition to a third-place finish in the discus (41.02 meters). She added fourth place in the shot put (12.19 meters) and sixth place, as well as another personal record, in the javelin (34.88 meters) to help the Falcons finish fifth in the team competition.
Already this season, Wolf extended her outdoor school record in the discus to 41.86 meters at Montevallo’s host meet in March. A similarly impressive indoor season finished with a school record in the shot put (12.74 meters) which helped her earn the conference championship and All-Region honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Wolf also notched another win from the UWG Legends Invitational the first weekend in April with a 41.01-meter discus throw for a four-meter advantage over second place. She also added fourth place in the hammer throw (45.73 meters) that meet.
