Foley holds first VEX Robotics Tournament

Foley’s first ever 1Roar VEX VRC Robotics Tournament took place at the Foley Event Center on Saturday, Dec. 15, bringing in many local teams as well as teams from as far as Montgomery to compete. The VEX Robotics Tournament has students building custom robots to compete on a playing field designed by VEX Robotics, with the VEX Robotics World Championship held in April of each year. During 2018, each school in Foley feeder pattern obtained a Robotics Club with the help of the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation. Unfortunately in the past, local teams had difficulty landing in the April tournament due to not having enough qualifying competitions happening in a location they were able to attend. Now with the Event Center, Foley has opened the door to hosting tournaments on their home turf, giving the Robotics Clubs in this area the opportunity they need to advance. Multiple teams from Foley placed during the competition and will now be advancing to the championship taking place in Auburn.
