The City of Foley continues to earn national accolades for its financial transparency and reporting, securing its sixth consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
The award, which recognizes Foley's 2025 budget, highlights the Finance Department's commitment to meeting the highest standards in governmental budgeting. According to the GFOA, recipients must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines that evaluate how well a budget functions as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communication tool. To qualify, Foley's budget had to be rated "proficient" in all four categories and 14 mandatory criteria.
"It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting," a GFOA statement said. "In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation."
Foley is among more than 1,700 municipalities and organizations that participate in the Budget Awards Program. In addition to the budget award, the city has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 11 years and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting five times.
For five years, Foley has received all three honors in the same year, a distinction known as the "triple crown." The city was also recognized with a Certificate of Excellence for Continuing Disclosure Reporting from Digital Assurance Certification, marking a decade of full compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure rules.
