There might still be a nip in the air, but things are about to heat up.
The Flora-Bama Lounge is gearing up for its 31st Annual Super Chili Bowl Cook-Off, a beloved tradition set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 8.
From noon to 2 p.m., the Flora-Bama Tent will transform into a chili lover’s paradise, all while raising funds for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
This year’s cook-off promises to be more exciting than ever, with the introduction of a "Best Decorated Booth Contest" to showcase teams’ creativity. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or simply looking to indulge in some delicious chili, the event has something for everyone.
Registration for competing teams opened back in late December with spots capped at 20 teams. Each team will include up to three members. Teams will set up in the tent from 8 to 10 a.m. on the day of the event, with cooking officially starting at 10 a.m. All teams must prepare a minimum of eight gallons of chili to ensure ample samples for both judging and attendees.
Teams must bring their own cooking utensils, pots, burners and ingredients. While ingredients can be prepped in advance, no pre-cooking is allowed, and all ingredients will be inspected before cooking begins. Flora-Bama will provide tables, bowls, spoons, napkins and crackers.
Participating teams will also receive perks, including souvenir T-shirts, two draft beer tickets and one free drink card.
The tent opens at 10 a.m., with chili sampling and judging kicking off at noon. Attendees can purchase an all-inclusive ticket for $25, which includes unlimited chili samples, one draft PBR or bottled water and a People's Choice voting ticket. Additional People's Choice tickets are available for $1 each. Tickets can be purchased at the tent entrance starting at 10 a.m., with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The competition will feature several prize categories:
Every dollar raised during the Super Chili Bowl Cook-Off will go directly to Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society, making it an event that combines fun, flavor and philanthropy. Attendees are encouraged to come hungry and ready to vote for their favorite chili while contributing to a meaningful cause.
Mark your calendars and join the Flora-Bama community for this flavorful celebration. Whether you’re a chili aficionado or simply looking to support a good cause, the Super Chili Bowl Cook-Off promises to deliver an afternoon of good food and great company.
