Local community leaders are inviting residents to gather at St. Andrew by the Sea Community Church, 17263 Fort Morgan Rd. in Gulf Shores, on June 14 to celebrate Flag Day and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
The event, slated for 11 a.m. to noon, will honor veterans of all military branches and their families in a special ecumenical worship service.
Organizers say the service aims to recognize not just veterans, but also the often-overlooked sacrifices made by their families. A highlight of the day will be the sharing of veterans' stories, giving attendees a chance to reflect on the service and dedication that have shaped the nation's military history.
In preparation, organizers are encouraging veterans and their loved ones to submit one- to two-paragraph stories about their experiences. These stories will be printed and shared during the service. Interested participants should email their submissions to sfranduto@gmail.com by Monday, June 9. American Legion Post 44 Chaplain Frank Randuto is coordinating the collection of stories.
Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
