Fairhope junior Spence Sims picked the right game to set the school’s single-game scoring record with 46 points in the Pirates’ 72-68 win over the Baker Hornets at home Tuesday night.

It was a matchup of top point guards in the state where Baker’s LaBaron Philon entered as the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer and 247Sports’ No. 1 Alabamian point guard recruit for the Class of 2024 listed at 6’ 4”.

Sims made his statement when he connected on 10-of-14 three-point shots to not only kept the Pirates in the game but helped the hosts take a lead in the fourth quarter they would not relinquish.

Fairhope improved to 12-1 on the season with the win entering a Saturday matchup against Spanish Fort. The Pirates’ previous win over Smiths Station Friday, Dec. 9, marked win No. 100 for head coach Solomon Johnson.

The 6’ 1” Fairhope guard is ranked as the No. 2 point guard in the state and the 6th-ranked overall prospect in Alabama for his class by Prep Hoops.

Last season, Sims went on visits to Samford, Alabama and Ohio University before he made a trip to Tennessee Tech earlier this fall. According to recruiting insider Jake Lieberman, Sims generated some more interest and had received contact from Troy, South Alabama, Air Force, Ole Miss, Belmont and Cornell.

The Pirates’ Class 7A Area 2 sprint will come in January when Fairhope squares off with Foley and Daphne twice in 11 days.
