Plane & Level Coastal, Baldwin County's aviation-inspired fine dining destination, is taking diners on a new journey in 2025 — this time, to Italy.

The restaurant, known for offering unique culinary experiences rooted in global flavors, debuted its Italian-inspired menu in January, accoridng to a news release, bringing the rich tastes of Italy to the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Culinary Director Orlando Amaro, whose expertise in Mediterranean cuisine has shaped the restaurant's menus, is at the helm of this new culinary adventure.

"This is more than just a menu change; it's an experience," Amaro said in the release. "We're bringing the essence of Italy — its warmth, tradition and artistry — to Baldwin County."

According to Amaro, guests can expect handmade pasta, innovative yet authentic Italian techniques and a wine list that highlights the finest selections from Italy's most celebrated vineyards.

The restaurant's dedication to excellence goes beyond the food. Following the sudden passing of founder Brian Culwell in April 2024, his family — led by wife Amelia Culwell and their children — has taken the reins to ensure the legacy of world-class cuisine and exceptional hospitality continues.

"My husband built something truly special here, and it is our honor to carry on his legacy," Amelia said. "Plane & Level Coastal is about bringing people together, celebrating life and creating unforgettable dining experiences."

Under the family's leadership, Plane & Level Coastal has refined its ambiance to reflect the spirit of Italy. Fine artist Susie Cortez contributed original Italian-themed artwork, adding a vibrant touch to the restaurant's interior. A specially designed menu piece further enhances the dining experience, immersing guests in the Italian destination.

Since its opening in November 2023, Plane & Level Coastal has garnered glowing reviews, earning a reputation for its exceptional hospitality and diverse culinary offerings. While the current focus is on Italian cuisine, the restaurant continues to evolve, offering exclusive chef's table experiences, intimate dinners and special events.
