A trio of Baldwin County football teams will be looking to extend winning streaks in the early parts of the 2024 season as Week 5 is set to kick off this weekend.
St. Michael remains the last local unbeaten team with a 4-0 record, the program’s best start to a season, on top of a 2-0 mark in Class 4A Region 1.
Fairhope and Bayside Academy dropped their season-opening contests but have not lost again and take a 3-1 overall record into Week 5. The Pirates are 2-0 in Class 7A Region 1 and the Admirals are 2-0 in Class 3A Region 1.
Three more teams, Daphne, Foley and Spanish Fort, are hosting key region games this week so get ready for the action with the information below featuring historical data from the Alabama High School Football Historical Society.
Escambia County Blue Devils (1-3, 0-2) at St. Michael Cardinals (4-0, 2-0)
After setting a program record for most points in a season last year, the St. Michael offense has not missed a beat and currently owns a 35.5 point-per-game average through four games. The Cardinals will not only be looking to extend their season-opening win streak but also add onto a 15-game run of scoring at least 20 points.
The St. Michael defense has been complementary and currently averages 16 points against per game having allowed more than 20 points only once this season. Escambia Academy’s average dipped to 19.5 points per game following last week’s 13-6 loss to Mobile Christian.
Fairhope Pirates (3-1, 2-0) at Robertsdale Golden Bears (2-2, 0-2)
Fairhope looks to have found an offensive groove after lighting up the scoreboard last week to increase its average to 25.3 points per game. On the other sideline, Robertsdale will be looking to bounce back from consecutive region losses following two-straight wins to open the year.
This year’s contest will serve as the teams’ first meeting since 2015 when the Pirates secured a 35-6 win. Fairhope holds a 47-23-5 lead in the all-time series which dates back to 1931 according to the AHSFHS.
Flomaton Hurricanes (2-2, 0-2) at Bayside Academy Admirals (3-1, 1-0)
The Bayside Academy Admirals have been riding a stout defensive effort on their winning streak following a season-opening loss. Fresh off a shutout win to open region play, the Bayside Academy defense is averaging 12.5 points allowed per game thanks in part to a 7-5 win over Orange Beach the prior week.
On the other side of the ball, the Admiral offense supplied its second 30-point effort of the winning streak last week and will look to keep pace against the Flomaton defense that enters averaging 24.8 points per game.
This year’s contest will serve as the teams’ first meeting since 2021 when Bayside Academy won 28-21 to increase its lead in the all-time series to 8-4.
