Fairhope Farmer's Market closes for season

FAIRHOPE — Fairhope Farmer's Market held its last market of the season in downtown Fairhope on Thursday.

Located behind Fairhope Public Library, the farmer's market had several booths representing local farmers and businesses in Baldwin County selling local produce and goods. Those who had booths for the last market before the winter sold a wide variety of food and goods, including Kittrell's Daydream Local Honey, Pop's Brittle Company, 'Ono Sweets and Pirate's Pickles.

Beth Ann Gifford, who serves as the community outreach coordinator for the City of Fairhope, said she was happy with the turnout for the final market of the season on Thursday and hopes to see the market grow in the near future.

"Thank you to everybody who came out and supported the market this season," Gifford said. "We hope to have more vendors, more farmers, and we can't wait for the next season."

Even with the farmer's market not in season, Gifford urged residents to shop locally to support local farmers and businesses, with many of their goods being sold locally in grocery stores within the Baldwin County area, including at local Piggly Wiggly stores.

"Shop locally," Gifford said. "Go to [Piggly Wiggly]. I know a lot of our vendors here also sell to local grocery stores in the area. Go to our farmer's market stands in the area. There are a lot of ways to support your local farmers even when [Fairhope Farmer's Market] isn't in season."

Additionally, local vendors who had booths in Fairhope on Thursday like Pop's Brittle Company, the Quirky Mac and Pirate's Pickles all sell their products online, with many saying they have hopes to expand their brands to storefronts by 2025.
