Dave Friedel, who has led efforts at Fairhope Airport since joining as manager in December 2022, was recently named Airport Manager of the Year by the Aviation Council of Alabama.
According to a news release, the honor highlights Friedel's efforts to enhance operations, development and service at the Eastern Shore facility, recognized as an asset to Baldwin County's growing aviation needs.
Friedel was recruited by the Fairhope Airport Authority's Board of Directors, where his impact has been notable, Chairman Don Ward said.
"Dave has done an outstanding job organizing and implementing the Authority's plans for the airport in a very effective way. I congratulate him on this well-deserved honor," Ward said.
Fairhope Airport, which serves the Eastern Shore region of Baldwin County, hosts a range of aviation activities. Home to 65 based aircraft, from Piper Cubs to corporate jets, it manages over 5,000 monthly take-offs and landings along its 6,600-foot runway. In addition to its fueling and maintenance services, the airport also provides flight training and aviation electronics support, highlighting its significance as a hub for aviation in the area.
Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan praised the airport's role in the community and Friedel's leadership.
"The airport is such an important asset to the City of Fairhope," Sullivan said, "and we're fortunate to have Dave managing this critical and growing operation."
