Two Baldwin County high schools are kicking off 2025 with upgraded athletic facilities.
According to a news release, Sports Turf Company recently completed renovations to the fields and tracks at Spanish Fort High School and Daphne High School, delivering state-of-the-art improvements designed to enhance both performance and durability.
At both schools, Sports Turf replaced the existing natural grass fields with a dual-fiber artificial turf system. The AstroTurf Rhino Blend system, a combination of slit-film and high-micron fibers, was selected for its durability and visual appeal. This upgrade is expected to reduce rainouts and maintenance needs, a critical benefit for Baldwin County's rainy climate.
"Sports Turf is excited to provide both Baldwin County High Schools with improved athletic facilities to enhance their programs," Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins said in the release. "In an area that receives a great amount of rainfall, the artificial turf systems will allow for less rainouts and maintenance during football season."
The renovations extend beyond the fields. Spanish Fort High School's eight-lane track was resurfaced with Rekortan BSS, a high-performance synthetic track surface designed to meet the needs of competitive runners. Meanwhile, Daphne High School athletes now have access to new long jump and triple jump runways, as well as a redesigned pole vault area.
