Posted

FAIRHOPE – Baldwin County Administrator Wayne Dyess resigned his position effective Feb. 22 in a move announced at the end of the County Commission meeting Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood made a motion to accept Dyess’s resignation, which was approved by a unanimous vote. The issue was not on the agenda and commissioners did not comment on it before voting.

Dyess said after the meeting that he was moving to another position, but was not ready to announce what position he will be taking.

“It’s just time to move on,” Dyess said. “Sometimes you want to move on to new challenges. Sometimes you have to go out and try new things. I’ve been with the county for 13, 14 years and so it’s time to move on.”

“I’m looking forward to the new challenges. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m excited about it. It’s a place I’m familiar with,” he added.

Dyess praised his co-workers at Baldwin County.

“We have a wonderful staff here,” he said. “I can’t say enough about the staff. They’re very dedicated, very professional.”

Dyess had served as planning director for Baldwin County from 2000 to 2010, according to reports. He was Fairhope planning director before taking the position of county administrator in 2019.
