Doris Franklin Stewart, affectionally known as "Dot", age 89, a native of Lillian, Alabama, and a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, left this earthly life on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022.
She attended Fairhope High School and graduated with the class of 1951. After graduating, she married John E. Fidler and had two sons with him, Jeffrey Earl Fidler and Edward Joseph Fidler. She was a very efficient bookkeeper and had several jobs doing that before she got into the banking business. In 1973, she met David Andrew Stewart while he was a crop duster in Baldwin County. I think they were smitten with each other from first sight! They dated for a while and Dave's job took him west to Texas and Oklahoma.
After missing her tremendously, he sent her a 'one way' ticket! They were married and shared a deep love and a wonderful life together until Dave passed in 2009. She was a virtuous woman that cared for her husband, family, and friends very deeply. She was baptized in the Church of Christ and remained a faithful Christian for all her life! She worked at First State Bank in Gould, Oklahoma where she worked her way up to vice president. She and Dave both retired in 1998 and moved back to Alabama. She was happy to be back home and close to her two sons, Jeff and Eddie. She placed her membership in the Fairhope Church of Christ and enjoyed church activities and her many old school friends again. She enjoyed shopping and eating out in the many restaurants of the area.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Efford W. Franklin and Virgie Resmondo Franklin; her son, Edward Joseph Fidler; her husband, David Andrew Stewart; brother, Louis Eugene Franklin and stepdaughter, Laurie Stewart.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Earl Fidler (Tina); sister-in-law, Carol Franklin; niece, Cindy Cox (Tim); brother-in-law, Jimmie Fidler (Faye); cousin, Joyce Dyess (Sherman); stepchildren, Karen D'Olive (Jay), Andy Stewart, and Bethany Klein; numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She will be sorely missed by all who loved and adored her.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, from 6 until 8 p.m.
"Home Going" services were held at Fairhope Church of Christ, 890 N. Greeno Rd, Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Brook-Cedron Cemetery in Barnwell, Alabama.
