Divine Empanadas food truck closing after successful run in Baldwin County

Divine Empanada, a popular food truck in Baldwin County since 2019, is closing its window.

Owners Aaron and Margaret Penton began selling empanadas at the Fairhope Farmers Market and became a beloved part of the community. On June 30, the Pentons shared the news of their food truck's closure in a video announcement.

"After so many years of serving great empanadas and food to our awesome community in Baldwin County and Mobile County, it is about to come to an end. We will be transitioning down to Miami, Florida, Aug. 1 for a new assignment," Aaron Penton said in the video. "You all have made the past nine years on the Eastern Shore some of the best times of our lives."

Gulf Coast Media introduced readers to the Pentons in 2022.

"We are huge foodies," Aaron Penton said in a 2022 interview. "We always wanted to open some type of business. In 2017, we took a trip back to Miami and we were walking through Little Havana eating everything in sight, and it hit us. Why not empanadas? We took the time and started investigating how to do it and how to introduce it to the community."

The pastors turned their love of food into a thriving business. It took them nine months to get up and running, during which they experimented with recipes and local flavors and perfected their offerings. They even adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering delivery to reach more customers.

The little white food truck trailer has crisscrossed Baldwin and Mobile counties, filling bellies and putting smiles on faces all while the Pentons continued their ministry.

"Thank you for your support all these years," Margaret Penton said in the video. "We have been rocking since 2018, and we have been really blessed by this community coming alongside us and supporting us. We just wanted to say thank you."

The Pentons have accepted a new pastoral position at COOL Church in Miramar, Florida. They met and fell in love in South Florida.
