If you are looking for a fun family adventure this weekend, head to Blakeley State Park.
Wake up a little early Saturday morning for the Junior Naturalist Program sponsored by the Alabama Master Naturalists. The program will get children interested in the natural world around them. Children ages 12 and under will learn about native trees, build pinecone barometers, create leaf art and learn about keeping a nature journal.
The program is complimentary with park admission, but registration is requested on the park website. It will be held at 9 a.m., May 18 at the Old House Site.
Afterward, stick around in the same area for the Survival Principles Instruction Program for Kids. Local search and rescue teams will speak to children about what to do if they become lost or become separated from adults outdoors. Children will have an opportunity to meet the specially trained dogs who assist in the search for missing children. This event is good for the children and their parents.
The Survival Principles program is complementary with park admission and begins at 11 a.m. at the Old House Site.
Looking for an adventure on the water? Book yourself or your family on the Saturday morning Delta Adventure tour.
The two-hour excursion takes you into the waters of the scenic Mobile-Tensaw Delta. See the wildlife that calls our waterways home such as eagles, ospreys and alligators.
The cruise leaves port at 9 a.m. and returns at 11 a.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-12.
Blakeley cruises book up quickly. Visit www.blakeleypark.com to save your space.
Wrap up the weekend with Art in the Park Sunday, May 19.
The Art in the Park series helps artists and those wishing to explore their artistic talents to look to nature around us for inspiration. The class helps participants recognize and overcome the blocks keeping them from their creative side. Pack a journal or notebook, your favorite drawing tools, a chair or easel and release your inner artist.
This event is Sunday, May 19, from 2-4 p.m. and is free with regular park admission. Reserve your place by visiting, www.blakeleystatepark.com.
