David Gray Woodruff, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 87.
In his early life, David wandered and explored the woods and waters of Dog River with his friends, brothers and sisters. He was a graduate of Murphy High School, and married his high school sweetheart, Eugenia Lorge, and loved her dearly through their 63 years of married.
David worked hard at Brookley, South Central Bell and AT&T, to provide a wonderful life for his family, all while attending the University of South Alabama as a working adult. David enjoyed all aspects of the water; fishing, crabbing, catching lots of mullet in his cast net and boating. He even owned a shrimp boat for a while and harvested a lot of seafood. When he was not on the water, he was in his yard growing vegetables as well as flowers. He definitely had a green thumb, and the 200 Camillia bushes in his yard are a testament to his love of growing things.
Most of all, David loved his family. And not just his immediate family, he loved all his nieces, nephews, as well as so many others who came into his life throughout the years, with whom he shared his love, wisdom and advice with.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Hamlet Thomas Woodruff and Louise Cartright Woodruff; his wife, Eugenia Lorge Woodruff; son, David A. Woodruff; and siblings, Charles E. Woodruff, Barbara W. Doan, Ronald T. Woodruff, and Theresa W. Kimball.
He is survived by his daughter, Alice (Timothy) Greenlay of Daphne, AL; daughter-in-law, Gwen L. Woodruff; grandchildren, David (Ashley) Woodruff, Jr, Erin (Neal) Reid, Margaret L. Woodruff, Veronika G. Greenlay, Darren C. Woodruff and Yuriy S. Greenlay; great-grandchildren, Jace Jones, Connor Jones and Clark Reid; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Woodruff and Mary Lee Woodruff; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and many wonderful friends.
