Daphne’s senior do-it-all man Cam Long announced his commitment to the Miles College Bears after graduation in the spring.

Long, listed at 5’ 7” and 170 pounds, rarely came off the field for the Class 7A Trojans where he served as safety, running back and wide receiver before he returned punts and kickoffs.

During Daphne’s region game against Davidson, Long ran for a touchdown, blocked a field goal and pulled down a pick-six to help the Trojans to a 40-21 victory.

Daphne head football coach Kenny King said that’s not the only example of Long being all over the field and the coach appreciated the example he set forth.

“Cam basically lives, sleeps, and eats on the football field,” King said. “He literally never comes off the field and no matter what position he plays, he has a knack for the ball.”

Long announced his commitment and shared his appreciation to his supporters on social media Sunday night, Dec. 18.

“I want thank God for giving me another opportunity to play the game I love and to continue on with my journey,” Long wrote on Twitter. “I also want to thank all my coaches, Daphne High School, my family, and my supporters for being with me the last 4 years and throughout my high school career. It’s been a very long journey, and your support is appreciated. I have committed to Miles College, GO BEARS.”

For the 2022 season, Long collected 42 total tackles between 36 solos and 6 assists, 10 pass breakups, 3 quarterback hurries, 1 fumble recovery and 3 interceptions where he returned 2 for touchdowns defensively.

Offensively, he finished with 124 rushing yards on 17 carries with 2 touchdowns for an average of 7.29 yards per carry.

On special teams, he returned 9 punts and racked up 177 punt return yards with 2 touchdowns (65 and 42 yards) for an average of 19.66 yards per punt. He also returned 9 kickoffs for 183 kickoff return yards for an average of 20.3 yards per kickoff.

Miles College, an HBCU school outside of Birmingham, competes in the West Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference against Tuskegee, Lane, Kentucky State and Central State.
