DAPHNE — Daphne High School's AFJROTC program recently completed its eith-annual New Cadet Academy, a summer orientation program preparing new cadets. The program lasts four days and instructs newcomers of the rules, expectations, leadership, drills, physical activities and ways to speak and treat others.
Over the four days, cadets participate in drills, physical training and academics.
During drills, new cadets learn to march in formation, act, move in unison and respond immediately. Physical training, or PT, shows cadets exercises and activities. Academic classes teach the basics of what AFJROTC is, its leadership, core values and more.
New cadets who completed all their training received a certificate and promotion in recognition of the hard work they put into the academy.
New Cadet Academy stresses teamwork, encouragement to strive for higher standards, learning about AFJROTC and understanding to become a better citizen.
This year, Daphne High senior cadet Lt. Col. Alexandria Johnson leads the Corps. She is mentored by faculty instructors Retired Chief Master Sergeant Steve Tarrance in his third year at DHS and Retired Lt. Col. Doug Goodlin in his 13th year at the school.
