The voting residents of Daphne could soon be in a new district as the city reworks the seven city council districts ahead of the 2025 general election.

The redistricting is still a work in progress and was most recently discussed during the June 10 City Council Work Session. The city is working with Carey Technology, LLC's Cynthia Feirman. The city council approved Carey Technology for the redistricting project in Feb. at a cost of $24,900.

During the June 10 work session, Feirman explained to the city council that the project's goal is to use figures from the 2020 census and projections to get each of the seven districts as close to 3,966 voters as possible. Daphne's population in the 202 U.S. Census was 27,462. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's website, as of July 1, 2023, Daphne's estimated population was 30,321.

Proposal three was what was discussed during the work session. Under Proposal three:

- District 1 would go from 4,928 to 3,814

Once the proposal is finalized there will be another public meeting. When the legal description and maps are finalized, the city council will vote on the new districts. The redistricting must be completed at least three months before the November 2025 general election.
