Daphne graduate serves as student marshal for Auburn commencement

AUBURN — Katie Pappas, a graduating senior in the Auburn University Theatre program from Daphne, Alabama, was selected to lead the College of Liberal Arts class of 2022 in the spring commencement ceremonies this month.

"Being chosen to be a graduation marshal and represent the college that has helped me grow immensely in my time here has been an incredible honor because it shows the work that I have put in has been acknowledged and hopefully brought something beneficial to the college," Pappas said.

In Auburn's theatre program, Pappas has acted in productions including "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "A Doll's House" and "Little Women." She also served as house manager for "Spring Awakening" and as a postproduction assistant for "New Day Dawning." In spring 2022, she helped organize the Theatre and Dance Senior Showcase in Atlanta.

Off stage, Pappas serves as a marketing/recruiting assistant for Auburn Theatre, head of public relations for The Auburn Circle, affiliate relations officer for the Auburn New Media Club and intern for the production social network Poolhouse.

Pappas, who transferred to Auburn during her sophomore year, said she has gained much more than a Bachelor of Fine Arts in performance during her time on the Plains.

"Seeing myself when I first came to Auburn versus where I am now as grand marshal has really put in perspective just how much I have grown," Pappas said. "Auburn has both pushed and nurtured me to constantly strive to do more and achieve what I want for myself. I have worked incredibly hard, but I needed the foundation of Auburn to allow me to grow and foster that hard work through my professors, peers and advisors in the College of Liberal Arts."

After graduation, Pappas will begin her career at Cosmo Street, a New York City-based editorial house, and continue her work with Poolhouse. She will also audition for film, television, theatre and other acting opportunities while in New York.

"Katie Pappas is an excellent choice to lead our College of Liberal Arts class in this spring's commencement ceremonies," said Interim Dean Ana Franco-Watkins. "Katie made the most of her time at Auburn and defined her own path to success. That creativity, drive and experience is characteristic of our graduating class, and we are excited to see all that they accomplish in their respective careers."
