Daniel Toliver Chatwood, Jr., age 83, resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and closest friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Toliver and Sue Chatwood and his brother, David Chatwood.

Dan is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Reggie) Lancaster of Tuscaloosa, Rachel (Skip) Neal of Fairhope; son, Daniel T. Chatwood, III of Fairhope; grandchildren, Alexandra (Lawton) Dean, Emily (Doug) Killough, Anna Beth (Carter) Standeffer, Riley Kate (Curtis) Bowden, Andrew Bosco, Edward Mitchell, Toliver Chatwood, Madison Chatwood; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Furman Dean, Frances and Bedford Killough; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Dan graduated from Fairhope High School and went on to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he received a scholarship to play football. He completed his master's degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Dan was hired as head coach at East Central Community College and later was an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana University.

In his years in the coaching business, Dan had a long-lasting, positive impact on all his players and staff.

In 1972 he moved his family back home to Fairhope where he would spend the rest of his life.

Dan was dearly loved by his three children and countless close personal friends. He attended sports events and dance recitals for many years continuing on to his grandchildren's activities. His passion for golf, Alabama Football and his annual pilgrimage to Camden, Alabama Crappie Fishing created a lifetime of great memories for his entire family and friends. And no one could grow a better tasting crop of homegrown tomatoes than Dan!

Dan was better known as GranDan to his eight grandchildren and more recently GreatGranDan by his great grandchildren. Family was everything to GrandDan. He will be remembered as the greatest story telling, crappie fishing, tomato growing, seafood frying, yellow shirt wearing GranDan of all time.

Dan was a friend to many and loved by all.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope Chapel. Visitation with the family began at 12:30 p.m. and the service began at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Memory Gardens of Fairhope. Pastor Timothy Massey officiated the service.

Honorary Pallbearers: Floyd Childress, Terry Barksdale, Harry McLemore, Reggie Lancaster, Charles Grelier, Rick Gambino, Ray Clark, Harley Henderson, Larry Henderson, Charles Deese, Ken Fortenberry, David Lesage, Herman Roberts, and his beloved players from East Central Community College and Southeastern Louisiana University.
