Cups for a Cure donation presented to Starla Chapman

Coastal Bay Nutrition recently presented a $200 donation to Bay Minette resident and Food Network star, Starla Chapman, based on the sale of its Cups for a Cure specialty drink sold in her honor.

Chapman was a contestant on the recent season of MasterChef Junior and made it all the way to the Top 10. She was selected from thousands of applicants for the TV cooking competition. Even before she was featured on television, Starla had captured the region's attention during her health battle. Diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukemia in late 2011, Chapman battled back and is now in remission and on a mission.

Since her recovery, Chapman and her family have worked hard to raise money and awareness about the need to better fund childhood cancer research. She serves as an Ambassador for Alex's Lemonade Stand and has set up lemonade stands all over Baldwin County to support the cause.

She was selected as the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Girl of the Year and was named Alabama's Champion Child for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in 2014. She was tapped as the Honorary Chair for RIDEYELLOW, which raises funds for Camp Rap-A-Hope.

In 2018 Chapman was selected as IHOP's first ever Kid Culinary winner of its Pancakes with a Purpose effort to support Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Chapman whipped up a special recipe of Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Pancakes to win the title and America's heart. She has since gone on to participate in several cooking events to raise funds for local charities.

Chapman is now an eighth grader at Bay Minette Middle School. She was recently selected as a member of the school's Tiger Paws dance team and was inducted into the Beta Club. She is already scheduling pop-up events and hopes to eventually open her own food truck business.

You can stay up to date on those events by following her Team Starla Support page. If your business or school would like for their lemonade stand to set up on-site, email cookupacure@yahoo.com. A Go Fund Me Account has been set up to help support her "Cook Up a Cure" efforts.
