FOLEY – The best in college archery converged on the Graham Creek Nature Preserve to compete in USA Archery's 3D Collegiate Nationals last weekend and once again, the University of the Cumberlands Patriots reigned supreme as the overall champion for the fifth straight year.
Out of 32 total teams and 396 individual archers, the Patriots won five national championships as part of 15 podium finishes to top the team standings. Cumberlands has now won seven of the last eight 3D national titles.
Not far behind were Lindsey Wilson College and its four national titles for second place and the University of Pikesville with an individual champion and 13 medals for bronze.
Individuals and teams competed in different classes – recurve, compound, barebow, and fixed pins – before the mixed equipment team round preceded the event's closing ceremony and awards presentation at the Foley Event Center.
The collegiate national championship tournament was the first of two big tournaments held at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve. The Archery Shooters Association (ASA) will kick off its pro/am schedule with the Hoyt Easton Pro/Am set for Feb. 23-26, 2023.
