Motorists traveling southbound on Alabama 59 at Baldwin County 20 South should anticipate a temporary lane closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Thursday, March 14, as construction continues to finalize the Juniper Street extension.
The closure is necessary as crews begin the installation of pole foundations for the upcoming traffic signals at the intersection, where the extension will intersect with Alabama 59.
This phase of construction marks the final stage of the Juniper Street extension project, which aims to extend the street from Baldwin County 20 south and westward to connect with Alabama 59. Once completed, the installation of traffic signals and mast arms to support the lights will enhance safety and traffic flow in the area.
The project, which commenced in 2022, is part of Foley's efforts to provide additional north-south access within the city, offering an alternative route to using the highway. McElhenny Construction secured the contract for the project after the City Council accepted its bid of $4.53 million.
Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly during the temporary lane closure.
