The Coast Guard Foundation has awarded 207 scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year, totaling $750,000 in financial support.

These scholarships are part of the foundation's ongoing mission to strengthen the Coast Guard community by aiding the children of active duty, reserve, retired and deceased Coast Guard personnel as they pursue higher education and technical training.

Since the program began in 1990, the foundation has granted more than $8.3 million in scholarships. This year's scholarship recipients include students across the country, including several from Alabama and the Gulf Coast region.

Among the local students awarded Coast Guard Foundation Scholarships are:

• Patricia Brannan of Bay Minette, attending the University of South Alabama, is the daughter of Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Philip Zayas.
• Paige Henry of Spanish Fort, also at the University of South Alabama, is the daughter of Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Scott Henry.
• Madison Sanchez of Daphne, attending Florida State University, is the daughter of Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Edward Sanchez.
• Morgan Vogt of Mobile, enrolled at the University of South Alabama, is the daughter of Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher J. Vogt.
• Jacob West of Daphne, attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is the son of retired Coast Guard veteran Jacob West.

Additionally, Emma Pippin of Daphne received the Coast Guard Foundation Hubbard Broadcasting Foundation Scholarship. She, too, is studying at the University of South Alabama and is the daughter of Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Jeremy Mark Pippin.

Susan Ludwig, president of the Coast Guard Foundation, praised this year's scholars for their dedication and resilience.
