Patients at Children’s of Alabama were treated to a heartwarming Valentine's Day celebration, courtesy of the kindness and generosity of community members. Collaborating with Spire, the hospital organized its annual Valentine's Day card drive, spreading joy among young patients.
On Feb. 14 morning, Alabama Children’s Hospital Foundation staff distributed Valentine’s Day cards and goody bags brimming with treats, including cards and stuffed animals, to patients within the hospital. This gesture was part of an online card drive initiative that commenced on Feb. 1, resulting in the delivery of nearly 6,000 cards to patients this year.
Mindy Wald, Community Development Manager at Children’s of Alabama, expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support from individuals and organizations across the state.
“It is just so heartwarming to know that there are so many people and organizations across our state that would take the time to send cards to our patients,” Wald said. “This made our patients' day.”
The card drive, proudly sponsored by Spire since 2017, was further enhanced by the company's commitment to matching donations made by contributors during the campaign, up to $5,000.
“Seeing all of the smiling faces on Valentine’s Day makes all of us at Spire proud to be a part of this program,” said Joe Hampton, President of Spire Alabama, Mississippi, and Gulf Coast, echoing the sentiment of joy and community spirit fostered by the initiative.
