The holiday hustle is upon us. Holiday parties, children’s school concerts and prepping for the holidays can add a little stress this time of year. Take a little time away from it all get out and about this weekend. Our top pick of weekend events takes you from dogs on trains and chili to traversing trails in the Delta. Wales West Pet Night
What: Baldwin County Animal Shelter and Wales West are teaming up for a fun night. Bring your dogs for pictures with Santa and a train ride. Looking to add a pet to your family? Stop by and meet some of the shelter animals looking for their forever home. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Baldwin County Animal Shelter.
When: Friday, Dec. 9, 5-8 p.m.

Elberta High School Band Chili Cook-Off and Toy Drive
What: Eat chili and support the Elberta High School Warrior Band. All proceeds from the chili cook-off will support the band. The band has also partnered with the Gathering Place Outreach Ministry to collect toys. Over 400 children in the Elberta community received gifts from the ministry last year. Bring a new, unwrapped toy.
When: Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Elberta Park Festival Booth, 25013 State St., Elberta

Price: Entry to the chili tasting is $5

Trail Talk
What: Come and explore the biodiversity of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Traverse Meaher State Park’s winding trails and discuss the plant and animal inhabitants. Some areas may be muddy, so wear closed toed shoes and bring a camera or binoculars. Meet at Pavilion 3.
When: Saturday, Dec. 10 from 2-3 p.m.
Where: Meaher State Park, 5200 Battleship Pkwy East, Spanish Fort

Price: $2 entry fee for guest 12 and older. Free for overnight guests.

Junior Birder Club
What: Join the Mobile Bay Audubon Society’s Junior Birder Club at Bayfront Park. All children elementary age and up are invited. RSVP for the event to masonacurrier@gmail.com.
When: Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8:30 a.m.

A Cinematic Christmas
What: The Mobile Symphony’s annual holiday concert is a Christmas tradition for families across the Gulf Coast. This year’s concert features music from your favorite holiday movies. Visit mobilesymphony.org to purchase tickets.
