The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a health advisory regarding acute illnesses associated with Diamond Shruumz microdosing chocolate bars, cones and gummies. These products, sold online and in stores nationwide, have prompted multiple reports of severe adverse effects.
The CDC, in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), America's Poison Centers, and local health departments, is investigating 12 cases reported between March 30 and June 9. The cases span eight states including Alabama. Patients, ranging from 15 to 44 years old, presented with a range of symptoms including seizures, confusion, abnormal heart rates, blood pressure changes and gastrointestinal distress. Ten of the affected individuals required hospitalization.
Diamond Shruumz products are widely distributed, including through retailers specializing in hemp-derived products like CBD and delta-8 THC. Due to the severity of the reported illnesses, the FDA advises consumers to avoid all flavors of Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars, cones and gummies. Products should be discarded and not consumed.
The FDA's recommendations for the public are as follows:
As of the latest update, no deaths have been reported. The CDC and FDA continue to assess the situation and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
