Carl Robert Fortner, Jr., known locally as Robert, 85, a resident of Foley, Alabama, passed away Sun., Dec. 1, 2024. Robert was a proud U.S. Army National Guard Veteran who served honorably as Commandant of the Alabama Military Academy at Ft. McClellan and retired in 1996 after serving his country for over 40 years. He worked at Riviera Utilities in Foley for many years until he retired in 1999. Robert was a motorcycle enthusiast and world traveler along with being an above average Architectural Designer. He was a dedicated member of the Foley Optimist Club for many years.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Carl & Lois Fortner, along with his sisters Sharon Donaghy and Helen Gratham.

He is survived by his son, Carl Robert Fortner III; daughters, Rhonda Fortner and Renee Krueger (Bryan) all of Foley, Alabama; grandchildren, Colby, Adam, T.J. and Justin; great-grandchildren Kinleigh and Adelyn; and sister, Evelyn Hamrick of Foley, Alabama, along with many other loving relatives and friends.

 A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Wolfe Bayview Funeral Home in our Foley Chapel on Sat., Dec. 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Wynn Cemetery, Summerdale, Alabama.

The family will begin receiving family and friends one hour prior. To honor Robert’s memory, donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Optimist International Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
