C Spire opens warehouse in Foley

FOLEY — C Spire cut the ribbon on its new office and warehouse here last week as part of a continued effort to continue expanding fiber use through Baldwin County.

The telecommunications company is in the midst of a $500 million investment to expand fiber usage across Alabama.

In 2021 the company opened a hub in Bessemer, Alabama for expansion plans in Birmingham area markets after announcing a $1 billion investment to speed the development and deployment of fiber broadband and network enhancements across its three-state footprint.

In 2022 C Spire expanded its reach into the cities of Hoover and Homewood in the central part of the state.

The new Foley office and warehouse, located on the Foley Beach Expressway, boasts 17,000 square feet of space and features space for its sales team and technicians.

The expansion of high-speed internet into the Alabama’s most rural counties is a top priority for lawmakers this year.

During a special legislative session in March, Montgomery committed $537 million in federal funds for high-speed internet under plans state lawmakers and Gov. Kay Ivey approved last year.

State officials say one-fifth of addresses in Alabama lack access to high-speed internet, and about three-fourths do not have access to the speed officials consider the standard for the next decade.

According to maps drafted by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs only small portions of the Eastern Shore, Foley and Gulf Shores currently have access to the fastest download and upload speeds.
